WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE
Four snapshots of the kind of questions we drill — and the bit students usually miss until someone walks them through it.
Solve log₂(x + 3) − log₂(x − 1) = 3 for x ∈ ℝ.
How we coach it
Combine the logs first, then exponentiate. Most students forget to check that x − 1 > 0 in the original equation. We make domain-checks a non-negotiable step.
A water tank drains at dV/dt = −0.4t + 8 L/min. How long until empty if it starts at 100 L?
How we coach it
We integrate the rate, set V(0) = 100, then solve V(t) = 0 — the trick most students miss is checking the sign of dV/dt over the interval.
A sample of 250 voters returns 0.46 in favour. Build a 95 % confidence interval and explain what it actually means.
How we coach it
We do the formula, but the real lesson is interpretation — "95 % of intervals built this way contain the true proportion" beats "we are 95 % sure" every time.
Model the spread of a flu outbreak across a school of 1 200 over 8 weeks given an initial rate and a known recovery curve.
