WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE

Design and trace an algorithm that finds the kth-largest element in an unsorted list.
How we coach it
Working code first, then optimising. We rehearse the trace-table format examiners reward, then move to complexity analysis.
Design a small system for a real-world client. Justify your tech choices against requirements + constraints.

Marks come from *justification*, not novelty. We teach the IA-friendly structure: requirement, decision, trade-off, justification.
Identify three failure modes for a proposed system and explain how each would be detected and recovered from.

Failure-mode thinking is what separates a B from an A. We make it a checklist the student runs over every design.
Document a 4-stage project against a marking rubric. Identify which steps lose marks if rushed.

IAs are won and lost in documentation. We use the rubric in reverse, write to what they're looking for.
